Food Revolution Day is Here, May 20th! I am thrilled to be an Ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. Yes, there is a day to celebrate and learn about our food but this is something we can do every day. It is time to spread the message and get cooking, learn more about our food, what it can do for our bodies and how to grow it.

I personally have been on a journey with food for over 5 years. Changing my diet and focusing on real food has not only had an impact on my health but those around me including my children. We have taken the time to learn about foods, how they make us feel and how we can grow our own. And we are excited to spread the message.
This past year I got to spend some time speaking to 4 and 5 year olds about fruits and vegetables. I bought a bunch of fresh fruits and vegetables and brought them into the classroom. I was blown away at what the children knew. They loved sharing their favorite vegetables and fruits and how they ate them. Don’t underestimate kids, they get excited about fruits and vegetables, we just have to share with them.
Besides working directly with children, I have been working and speaking to parents about cutting out sugar, cooking in the kitchen and setting the example for the little ones. Remember we are shaping their relationship with food as they grow.
My family will be working out in the yard today and this weekend to get our garden ready. We recently purchased a home and have to start from scratch. The wood, the started plants, seeds, and soil are all ready to go. Besides a raised bed garden, we do a container garden for our favorite herbs. We love spending time talking about the foods we are growing, what they taste like, and how we are going to cook with them. Foods taste amazing when you grow them.

Why is this mission so important to me? Not only am I a mother of two who is concerned about what my children are eating, I have seen firsthand the benefits of replacing my diet with whole, real foods. Rewind back to over 5 years ago when I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I ate fast food on occasion, poured a box of food into the pan on the stove and covered my vegetables with dressings filled with ingredients I didn’t really understand. I had to take the time to teach myself to cook, learn about where food comes from, and what it can do for my body. My journey has led me to continue my education and become a Certified Holistic Health Coach and an Ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. I now take the time to teach both children and adults the power of real food. I wasn’t given the tools I needed to make positive choices for my health during childhood but it is never too late to learn.
