Get to know your Health Coach:
Meghan Teska began her wellness journey in 2011 after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. With a new baby at home, the task of changing her lifestyle was overwhelming. Not only was she depressed, she was dealing with the side effects of multiple medications prescribed by her doctors. After one year and two flares, she finally made the choice to take control of her health. She did this through focusing on dietary changes, reduction of stress, and movement. Meghan’s desire to help others find healthy lifestyles led her to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Meghan has studied hundreds of dietary theories and been trained with the skills to be a successful Health Coach. The focus at IIN goes beyond food and works to balance the whole self.
Meghan loves spending time with her husband and two children. She loves to cook and discover new recipes. Her four year old even joins her in the kitchen. Doctors had told Meghan that a second child may not have been possible with her severe ulcerative colitis. Today, her family of four enjoys cooking, playing outside and focusing on healthy living.
I knew for awhile that my families eating habits weren’t very good but I was too overwhelmed and busy to do anything about it. As a school counselor, I see children every day that struggle with mental and physical illness. These disorders and illnesses greatly affect their learning and many other areas of their lives. I decided that I did not want that for my children, and that if there was anything I could do to help prevent it, I needed to give it a try. I wanted to be proactive and not reactive. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect but Meghan worked with me each week to check-in, answer my questions, give me tips and recipes, and direct me in the path of eating clean and living a much healthier lifestyle. My biggest struggle was getting my children and husband to change their habits. As a mother of two, Meghan was very understanding of my struggles and gave me some very good ways to gain control of my family’s eating habits. A lot of times, people say you are more successful when you have a partner or friend to support you through changing your lifestyle. Even though we are miles apart, Meghan has been that friend that I could rely on for support each week. I was very impressed with her knowledge and passion for living a healthy lifestyle and her dedication to help others. My energy level is up, I’ve lost weight, my anxiety is gone, I sleep better at night, and overall, I feel best I’ve ever felt! My relationship with food has forever been changed and I have Meghan to thank for it.
