How Do You Start The New Year With A Positive Bang

January 6, 2016 By //  by Dishing For Real

What is in store this year ? Do you create a resolution only to find it a faded memory in February?

Sure we all want to eat healthier or maybe loose a few pounds but how do we set ourselves up for success. Start each morning with a similar routine so that it becomes a life change versus a resolution that you drop after a month.

First thing each morning, focus on what you are grateful for. Sure we do this around the holidays but why not all year. This will help crowd out the negative in our minds. Have you ever heard of crowding-out, scroll down?

You can write this in a journal or use our template.

Next focus on your intentions or goals for the day (these could be the same as yesterday). What do you want to accomplish? Remember crowding-out? Focus on the positive.

intentions

To finish, focus on the action steps. What do you need to do to accomplish your set intentions? Do you need to get a gym membership, cook at home, read labels, wake up 30 minutes earlier, etc. This is an important step to any goal setting. Does your intention affect someone else, do you have a barrier that needs to be identified and overcome, where are you going to do this and when are just some of the questions you should be asking. And write it down.

Have you ever heard the term “crowding out”? This is when you focus on adding more positive things to your life to crowd out the negative.

Several examples of crowding out:

Focus on drinking more water. Any time you feel the impulse to grab a sugar drink, go back to water. Try infused water too, if you need a little something added to it. Overtime, your desire for the sugar drinks will fade.

Add more vegetables to every meal. Make it a focus of each meal to add extra vegetables. Even adding them to your breakfast can be a great start. Soon you will be filling up on the healthier options.

Start each morning with a journal of gratitude. Find the positives in each day and you will begin too lose sight of the negative. A positive energy is contagious, so pass it on to others.
Cook dinner at home at least 5 nights a week. This will allow you to control ingredients and focus on where your food is coming from.

Are you ready to start setting your intentions for the new year?
